Irish Pub with a Modern Twist Basement Remodel

This basement remodel gives a nod towards a traditional Irish pub, but granite counters and a tile backsplash add in modern touches. Walking down the stairs you enter a light and bright basement and walk around walnut columns that look as though they have always been apart of the house. Sit at the bar and enjoy a glass of wine or meander to the floor to ceiling library and find a good book or of course sit back and relax watching a movie at the wonderful entertainment built-in. These customers thought of everything and this space is bright and comfortable.

Savvy Senior Kitchen

The new trend in home design is Age in Place remodeling. Mi-Kin Creations was thrilled to help a senior couple design a kitchen that was both beautiful and customized for their needs. While modernizing their 15+ year old kitchen, we incorporated functional design aspects like an in cabinet push button light dimmer, a full extension spice drawer with side slides, and handy access small appliance cabinets. 


Cozy Modern Loft

A loft that brings modern and cozy together in effortless style. Tongue and groove ceilings, and custom trim soften the stained concrete floors. A gray stained island with leathered granite top gives ample storage in a small kitchen. The dark kitchen cabinets with brass pulls are softened by the subway tile backsplash. The powder room features a custom vanity stained white with a natural wood top. The master bathroom brings cozy and modern together with gray stained custom vanity and a gray mirrored surround. The new modern brass lighting fixtures highlight the elegance of the loft.

Traditional Home Renovation with Tuscan and Modern Touches

This is a custom kitchen featuring shaker cabinets with a Tuscan feel. The cabinets are painted white and the island is a custom stain with gray overtones. The backsplash and the counter tops are Calcutta marbles highlighting the Tuscan feel of the kitchen. Glacier seedy glass is in the upper display cabinets. The flooring is distressed white oak flooring. Each flooring board was handmade, hand distressed, and hand stained before installation.

We were privileged to work along side designer Katie DeRario to help fulfill the vision of this beautiful basement remodel. Classic farmhouse shiplap walls blend well with modern industrial features like exposed brick walls and metal shelves. The rustic pine wood beams that stretch across the ceiling are softened with a pickled ash stain that add the perfect blend of farm house meets industrial.

Expanded Family Kitchen

When a wall is removed and a kitchen is expanded to give new life this is what you can get. The homeowners are a young family and needed a kitchen that would function for their family life. They were looking for more functionality and storage. Their new kitchen gave them all that and more. According to the homeowner the kitchen now has "so much extra storage counters can be clear and there are still empty cabinets." The pantry was quadrupled by adding full extension drawers and shelves that are child accessible for drink cups. A few custom appliances were added for the homeowners like the hidden separate ice maker so they could have "Chickfila ice whenever they wanted." Another feature that was added to utilize all space was the custom corner full extension drawers. There is not one detail that is not carefully thought out to make this kitchen a dream for the young family.

Kitchen Remodel: 
 Our challenge was to take a builder grade kitchen and infuse it with elements that combined Traditional cabinetry with Rustic overtones. Because our clients enjoy entertaining, the first step was to enlarge the kitchen. We took down the wall that separated the living room from the kitchen. This simple change enabled us to build an oversize island which serves as both a gathering place for guests and a work space for our client and her daughter, who is an aspiring chef. The island is made from reclaimed heart of pine taken out of a factory in Chicago. The semi-gloss, black lacquer cabinets were distressed to add to the rustic ambience the homeowner desired.  We wrapped the micro-lam beam used to support the upper level of the house with the same reclaimed wood used for the island. Using a shot gun, we distressed the beam and hand worked the dovetail joints and walnut pegs creating a barn like post and beam look. The pantry has a charming hand made heart of pine screen door.  Chicken wire was used for the screen, adding yet another rustic element to this thoroughly custom kitchen. There are even Urban Industrial overtones with the metal pulls on the cabinetry and the metal accented barstools.

Trestle Farm Table

A client we were building a kitchen for happened to see a classic farm trestle table that was being made in the shop. She immediately said, "I have to have that table." Her initial vision was rustic; however, her husband wanted a smoother look than rustic called for. A compromise had to be reached. This table is a blend of both rustic and modern. The top is smooth with a tighter grain. The base is painted the same gray tone of the cabinets with a brown glaze. Notice the benches. The grain is large giving a rustic feel and with the matching bases, it all works to create a perfect compromise.

Modern White Kitchen

This kitchen is not that large when walking in, but unique touches with light, tile, and custom focal points makes this room feel large and airy. To walk around the corner coming into the kitchen your eye is automatically drawn to the custom color matched island that holds the Wolf cooktop. The tile backsplash is not your standard white subway tile, instead the homeowner went with a raised and slightly wavy subway tile that adds movement and space to the eye.  Previously unusable space becomes another focal point with a corner cabinet and shelf plant holder. All these touches creates a clean and comfortable white modern kitchen design.

Clean and simple design open and brighten this kitchen remodel.

Custom tables and kitchen with added features. Every detail was thought out to make use of all avalible space and storage in this house. The custom tables are on stilts and can be lowered and combined with dining room table to make a grand table that will seat 20. When not in use the tables are stilted to add hight and make a great seated kitchen table and entertaining space. The tables have 3 different inserts to change the look and function of the tables.
The kitchen features shaker cabinets with a custom trim detail that adds interest to the eye. The gray and white cabinets are warmed by the dark walnut stained dry bar and sink. All space is maximized with hidden features throughout the kitchen, from a hidden medicine cabinet, a pull out step stool under one of the cabinet base boards. The lower cabinets feature full extension pull out drawers doubling the amount of storage.
