Woodworking is in Greg’s blood. During WWll his father, Ellis H. Michael Sr., was the lead man in the production of a wooden bomber trainer aircraft for the US Army Air Corp. After the war, he started a home improvement business that did work throughout the Southeast. Greg’s brother Ellis H. Michael, Jr. started Mi-kin Creations in Tampa, Florida in 1967 and continued until his death in 2012. An artist at heart, Ellis combined his artistic talents with woodworking to produce some of the most unique creations seen in the Tampa Bay area.
Greg grew up in his brother’s shop. When he graduated from high school, he went to the University of South Florida and majored in Finance. After working in the corporate world and as an Executive Pastor at Woodstock Community Church in Woodstock, GA, Greg rediscovered his love for woodworking while building his own house. Soon after this, Mi-Kin Creations Inc. of Georgia was born. Mi-Kin Creations Inc is a family business. Mi-Kin stands for “Michael Kin Folk.” Greg’s two sons, Gregory Jr. and Jonathan, have ownership in the business and are craftsmen in their own right. Both Jonathan and Gregory spent their primary and teen years working in the shop, which started in the family’s basement. They have been a part of the business’s growth from beginning to end.
